How To Use A Proxy Server - Computer Repair

A proxy server can be used  to disguise your IP address. The proxy server essentially masks your actual IP address, making it harder to track. Keep in mind that in some states or countries, using a proxy server without permission from the owner may be illegal. We will give you some information about the different types of proxy servers, as well as how to use a proxy server on different web browsers.

Types of Proxy Servers

Transparent Proxy Server: A transparent proxy server will give you a different IP address than your own, but your original IP address will be available. Transparent proxy servers can be used to get around IP bans, but not for anonymity.

Anonymous Proxy Server: An anonymous proxy server will be identified as a proxy server, but your original IP address will not be available. You can use an anonymous proxy server to be anonymous, but not if you do not want it known that you are trying to be anonymous.

Distorting Proxy Server: A distorting proxy server will appear to be a transparent proxy server, but an IP address different from your own will be available.

High Anonymity Proxy Server: A high anonymity proxy server will not appear to be a proxy server and your original IP address will not be available. This type will allow you to use a proxy server without making your real IP address available for others.

Average Cost For Solar Panels

Average Cost For Solar Panels - Roofers

From light bulbs to windmills, everyone is searching for ways to cut down on power costs. Solar energy is one popular go-to method that homeowners use in an attempt to decrease the costs of powering their homes. But, is it worth it? Knowing the average cost for solar panels is only helpful if you know your average rate of energy consumption (kWh).

Average Household Energy Consumption

The average U.S. household consumes 1kWh. At a rate of about 10 cents per kilowatt, that averages out to a bill of about $73 per month. Obviously, this number can vary greatly by region, so it is important to determine your own average energy consumption before making an accurate assessment.

What Is The Average Cost For Solar Panels?

On average, 100 sq. ft. of solar panels will generate 1kWh. The average household needs a 5kWh solar panel system in order to store enough energy to power the home when the sun is not shining. These systems average from $25,000 to $35,000 dollars to install.

Is It Worth It?

Depending on your region, there is likely not enough sunlight to fully power your home for 24 hours. Homes with solar panel systems generate 40 to 80 percent of their energy and rely on municipal power to make up for their remaining power needs. If your system could cover 100 percent of your power needs, it would still take 20 years to pay for itself — assuming your bill is around $73 per month. On the other hand, you would be significantly reducing the amount of fossil fuels being used to power your home, which does have a powerful effect on the environment.

Confused?

Call an expert. He or she can give you more accurate numbers, instead of just an average cost for solar panels. TalkLocal can get you in touch with one in your area for free. You will be speaking to someone who can help you in minutes.

Car Window Tint Shades

Car Window Tint Shades - Auto Glass Repair

So you’ve made the decision to tint your car’s windows. But before you go off and splurge on the darkest tints you can find, keep a few things in mind. Choosing a shade for your window tints can be confusing. Here are some things to keep in mind when choosing car window tint shades.

1. Consider the cost of any window tint you look at. Higher-quality tints will obviously be more expensive, but going for the cheapest available may result in a poor quality tinting job. You don’t need to break the bank, but it’s okay to invest a little more money for a higher-quality tinting job.

2. A colored window tint — a color not on the grey scale — will fancy up your car. You can find tints to match or compliment the color of your car. So if you have a bold colored car, why not go bold with your window tints?

3. Choose mirror tints for maximum privacy. A reflective tint will prevent people from seeing inside of your car, which is one of the major benefits of window tinting. Mirror tints also reflect sunlight well, which can help keep you car nice and cool during those hot summer months.

4. Choose a tint that is legal in your city or state. Most states have restrictions on darker window tints, especially tints that look black. Having extra dark tints could make you a target for police as well, so be mindful of the regulations in your state regarding darker car window tint shades.

5. Put a band on the top of your windshield to match the tint shades on your windows. This acts as a shield and protects your eyes from the sun, and also gives the car a sporty look. Some windshields come with a tinted band anyway, but it will just make your car look sharper if the windshield band matches your window tints.

Get Those Windows Tinted!

Hopefully you now have a better idea of what to look for in your new car window tint shades. Now you need to apply the tints to your car. You can certainly do this yourself, but you can also find a professional to do it for you. TalkLocal will help you find an auto glass shop in your area who can help you at your budget. Forget the online search; we do that for you, for free!

How To Diagnose Power Steering Problems

How To Diagnose Power Steering Problems - Auto Repair

We typically take power steering for granted, never realizing how helpful it really is until it goes out on us. It is very important to figure out how to diagnose power steering problems so that you can get your vehicle fixed as soon as possible. Unfortunately, it is not as easy as other common automobiles chores, like changing the oil.

You’ll need:

– A floor jack

– Two jack stands

– Flashlight

– Rag

– A friend

How To Diagnose Power Steering Problems:

1. First, check the power steering fluid. Being low on fluid makes it a lot harder to turn the steering wheel. Be sure to turn the wheel left and right several times after adding extra fluid to work the fluid into the system.

2. Open the hood and start the car. While a friend turns the steering wheel for you, listen at the steering pump. If the pump is whining loudly, you need to adjust the belt because it’s probably out of place.

3. Use the floor jack to lift the front of the car and support it with the stands. While a friend wiggles the wheels for you, inspect the wheel assembly connection and the steering assembly. Be on the lookout for anything loose or wiggly, because the whole thing should stay solid as the wheel moves.

4. Check out all of the hoses and pipes around the steering assembly to check for leaks. Use the flashlight for this, since it’ll probably be pretty dark and dirty under there.

5. Use the rag to clean the steering components completely, then check under the car again a few days later. This will make it clearer if you have a leak.

6. Whatever you find loose, torn, or broken, make a note of it and take a photo if you can.

How To Make Basement Less Damp

How To Make Basement Less Damp - Plumbers

Dampness of the basement is caused by the buildup in humidity. One of the most direct ways to fight against this humidity is to install and operate a dehumidifier for your basement. Install it in the place where you feel is the most damp. However this is  not exactly fixing the problem – it is a workaround for an existing dampness. Read this guide to learn how to make basement less damp, which will help to keep mold out of your basement.

What to Do

1. You can’t control the humidity outside your house — the weather does that entirely. But you can control the humidity inside your house by making sure that the humid air outside doesn’t seep into your house by securing your windows. After a heavy rainstorm or humidity buildup outside, make sure that your windows are closed. It’s just a good practice.

2. There is also a possibility that the washer or dryer lines in your basement have a leak — so the humidity inside these lines is getting released into the basement air, making it damp. Check the lines for leaks, with a protective glove, while the washer or dryer is in operation.

3. Windows are not the only place where the outside air can get inside your house. Check for cracks in the wall. After that, check to see that there are no unnecessarily large gaps between the door frame and the door to the basement (if you have an external door to your basement).

4. Any cracks in the walls, windows, or door frames can be fixed by adjusting the frames or using epoxy sealant. Apply the sealant over the cracks and let it dry for a couple of days. Of course, if your basement is already humid, it may take longer for the epoxy seal to dry.

5. If you are using a dehumidifier, try using a heater instead during the colder months. This is because dehumidifiers do not work at low temperatures. A heater will dry up the dampness, effectively performing the same task as a dehumidifier while also warming your basement.

Locked Out Of My Car

Locked Out Of My Car - Locksmiths

It happens to the best of us; “@#$%! I’m locked out of my car!” Even if the engine is turned on or your baby is inside, don’t freak out – freaking out limits your rational ability and makes you more prone to mistakes. However, you should call for help immediately. If your phone is inside the car, borrow someone else’s phone to call for help. Read this guide to know what to do when you are locked out of your car.

What to Do

1. If there is a baby in the car, call 911 — it can be seen as an emergency situation. A team of professionals will be there to assist you in minutes. For non-emergency situations, you can follow the steps below.

2. If there is a crack in your window, find a metal wiring (like coat hanger), make a thin but firm hook, and lower it through the crack of the window to get hold of the door switch inside. Then pull on the hook to release the lock from the inside of the car.

3. If you find that there are no cracks in the window for you to lower a hook into, find the nearest gas station and ask them for help. They can “jimmy” your car for you – jimmy refers to a gadget that easily pops most car locks open.

4. If you find that there are no gas stations near you, or that the jimmy won’t unlock your car, it’s time for the last resort. Head to a police station and ask for assistance there. Unless it’s an emergency situation, you might have to wait as they assist with an actual emergency — but they are sure to do the job; police units unlock suspicious vehicles all the time.

5. If no police stations are near you, call a locksmith — but expect to pay them extra for traveling out to your car from their office. It might take a while for a locksmith to get to your car and unlock the car, so call some people and let them know that you won’t possibly make it into the near future arrangements.

Additional Help

If you feel like you need professional help on getting into a locked car, TalkLocal can help you find the right professional for you, in just minutes — and it’s free!
