Seva Call Gallops Into Lexington, Kentucky - Seva Call

Sup Seva Callers? Seva Call has just launched in Lexington, Kentucky and we – being in the Horse Capital of the World after all – have a question… a musing… a simple pondering from sheer curiosity…

What is up with horse naming?  Arrrrrrr, Nosupeforyou, Comply or Die….seriously, are the weird names really all that necessary?

Apparently, yes.

It just so happens that naming a horse is a ridiculously long, arduous and complicated process. The Jockey Club, which is based in Lexington, Kentucky, the famous “Horse Capital of the World,” has a list of rules and procedures for horse naming that can only be described as… intense.

The real kicker is that no name can be used if it’s been registered in the past 10 years. With over 750,000 horses currently registered, that’s a whole lotta names to sift through. Owners usually submit half a dozen names when registering their horse because The Jockey Club rejects ⅓ of all names submitted. I guess you could say horse naming is not a race I would bet on with those kinds of odds.

Regardless, we applaud The Jockey Club. At Seva Call, the online concierge service which connects consumers directly with local pros, we understand the importance of a good name. Finding the best roofer, heating and cooling technician, or plumber can be a nail-biting race to the finish. Jockeying around online and on the phone to get in contact with a company is as difficult as….as…well…naming a horse!

Seva Call Gallops Into Lexington!

With Seva call, when you submit your service needs online, we guarantee that our innovative algorithm which analyzes a number of quality stats will find a thoroughbred champion. We’ll put you on the phone with the best company faster than Orb winning the Kentucky Derby. You wouldn’t risk money on a poor race horse; so why risk money (and time) on shoddy service quality? The companies we refer will be well-known names and will be able to do the job you want, on your time. No more searching through thousands of names, we’ll do it for you.

So, if you’re ever looking for the fastest, highest quality service provider in town, remember the name Seva Call, and save a call.

How Much Money Should You Blow On A Ring When Popping the Question?

How Much Money Should You Blow on a Ring When Popping the Question? - Seva Call

Nothing says ‘I love you” like an iridescent rock chipped away from some African cave and fastened to some other hunk of metal formed with equal attention to detail and maximal iridescent effect. Of course, one could just say “I love you”, but words are thrown around thoughtlessly given their low cost, wide availability, and short-term shelf-life. The engagement ring is designed to put your money where your heart is and then mark your romantic territory in a manner classier than just spraying your significant other. The question is, how much should you spend telling the world that you want to spend the rest of our life with — and all your hard-earned cash on — that very special someone? (more…)

Happy First Birthday Seva Call! - Seva Call

Unbelievable! It’s been a year since Seva Call first launched in DC. In fact, it’s so unbelievable that team members nearly forgot their own company anniversary — just more proof that time flies when you’re having fun… or working like crazy to build a business.

“I’m so proud of what the team has accomplished together so far, but my eyes are on the year ahead,” explained co-founder Gurpreet Singh, “We want to build more and deeper relationships to help even more people.”

Happy First Birthday Seva Call!

Gurpreet, the older of the two founding brothers and the brain behind the Seva Call software, was once just the small business owner of a computer repair company. Then, frustration over the costliness and inadequacies of searching and marketing online inspired him to create Seva Call. Now, he barely has time to marvel at just how far the start-up company has come.

“We’re still a scrappy, young start-up, but it feels like only yesterday that we operated out of a basement bedroom with spare computer hardware scaling the walls,” he said. “I can only imagine where we’ll be a year from now.”

Actually, 365 days and 518,185 placed calls later, the Seva Call team has been doing much more than imagining: they’ve been working! From new launches every week to press coverage, the team has left imagining to Mr. Roger’s neighborhood and is determined to make it happen in communities across the country. Seva Call’s anniversary is just another day when we work toward our goals.

“We’re like any one-year-old,” explained Employee #1 Rajesh Karyampudi. “If you’ve attended a kid’s first birthday party, you know that recognizing 365 days of postpartum life never  garners much interest. Kids will accept any excuse to crawl and stumble about smacking balloons and smashing fists full of cake all over their cheeks. They just want to keep doing what they love!”

Sure, Seva Call may have grown faster than most one-year-olds (unless you’re talking about an alien spawn which impregnated its DC-based human host and then burst full-grown from the womb to immediately infest dozens of major cities with time-saving search help). I mean, it’s pretty hard to connect consumers to top-rated local businesses in seconds if you’ve barely grasped object permanence; and, before comparing businesses based on consumer reviews and other quality assurance indicators, you have to learn to read. In any case, the Seva Call team feels just like a toddler at his or her birthday party – getting to do what they love, helping more people, and building more connections is celebration enough for the Seva Call team.

“Speak for yourself,” said Seva Man. “I’m having the team code a new service category called, ‘Where Da Party At?’”

Sssshhh! Don’t remind Seva Man about the Party Planner category.

Scoring Big In Louisville, Kentucky - Seva Call

Seva Man is a huge college basketball fan. So much so that he’s still reeling from March Madness. It’s a good thing too, because Seva Call has landed in Louisville, Kentucky, home of the 2013 NCAA Basketball Champions, the Louisville Cardinals! It’s safe to say Seva Man is stoked to be there.

Three months ago, Seva Man was camped out at the Seva Call headquarters, eyes glued to his computer, headphones in, and bracket in his lap with the Cardinals at #1. He watched every game and afterwards watched every play-by-play recap.

And then suddenly, just a couple of days before the big game, his computer screen went blue.

Seva Man could’ve panicked. He could’ve tossed his computer from the third floor balcony.

Seva Call Is Here To Help!

Luckily, Seva Man just happened to be in the perfect place to find a computer repairman. Seva Man simply plugged his information into the Seva Call search engine, and then team Seva Call took possession and compared stats based on consumer reviews, and call ratings to find the final best local professionals in the area.

Soon enough Seva Man was on the phone and picking his star recruit. It was a buzzer beater but Seva Man has his computer up and running again just in time to watch Louisville’s big win. Now, Seva Man is scoring big in Louisville!

“Seva Call is definitely my choice for MVP,” said Seva Man.

So, Louisville, between NCAA Basketball and the Kentucky Derby, you’ve got no time to be missing the big game or race. Go ahead and sub in Seva Call to assist with computer repair, tv repair or maybe a taxi to see it all live.

Saving Time in Fast-Paced St. Louis, Missouri - Seva Call

St. Louis may be situated right against the lazy Mississippi River, but the city’s people are busy with the standard hustle and bustle of living in one of America’s major port cities. Just as St. Louis keeps America running, we at Seva Call want to make sure St. Louis is flowing smoothly.

Occasionally, the tides get rough for St. Louis natives, who then find themselves in search of a local locksmith, plumber, or roofer. No one has time to navigate through telephone book pages and customer reviews, or spend minutes on the phone with individual professionals. This is where Seva Call steps in.

Saving Time In Fast-Paced St. Louis

Seva Call understands that time and tide waits for no man and neither does St. Louis. Just like Tom Sawyer, you’ve got better things to do than paint a fence, so Seva Call is here to help find someone to do it for you. Just check out our search page, type in the service you need provided and where, and Seva Call will connect you with three reliable professionals in no time.

“Seva Call is all about efficiency,” says founder Manpreet Singh, “Our services not only help you, but also the local businesses in your city, and this keeps America strong. It’s killing two birds with one stone, really.”

So next time you find yourself struggling upstream, check out Seva Call and save a call.

Great Time Of Year For Fathers

Great Time Of Year For Fathers - Seva Call

It’s getting to the time of year where the sun is shining most days, footballs are being tossed around in backyards all over the country, and the bugs are in full force. Millions of the Americans that are enjoying the thrills of the summer are men who have devoted their lives to being the best men they can be. We take one day each year to recognize these men, and what better time of year to do this than when the grill is used almost everyday? This surely is a great time of year for fathers.

Today, June 16, is Fathers’ Day. Take some time to think about the men who have made the largest impact on your life — whether this is your father, an uncle, a grandfather, a friend’s dad, a mentor, or a boss — whoever it is, think of what they have done to make your life the best it can be.

Often, the things that make men caring and generous are the small things. This Fathers’ Day, think of the men who have been great male role models to you, because of the small things they’ve done. A quick hug on a sad day, holding an umbrella above your head while they stand in the rain to make sure you stay as dry as possible, or giving a bag of gummy bears to you just because.

Sometimes, these men impart values in more obvious ways. You may think they were giving you a driving lesson, but the real lesson they were teaching was responsibility. The test was when he actually handed you the keys, and you passed when you confessed about the dent on the bumper: honesty. And then he modeled forgiveness when he handed you the keys again. Often these lessons aren’t fun, but afterwards, you realize how much you learn from your male role models. It is often easy to forget that your male role models have helped you grow into a strong, driven, well-rounded individual.

Who are the males around you that have made large impacts on your life? Have you thanked them for their contribution to your life? Take this time, amongst the grilling, swimming, and bugs to really show these men what they’ve meant to you. They will be blessed beyond your knowledge.

Happy Father’s Day from the Seva Call Team.

Happy Fuss Over Father’s Day

Happy Fuss Over Father's Day - Seva Call

Quick! Before he barricades himself in his man cave until this whole thing blows over, attack your dear old dad with your full nuclear family arsenal: kisses, hugs, and the kind of mushy stuff that you can’t use to pave the driveway.

And, for the love of dads: do something different this year. Every year poor dad gets tied down, cuffed, or smothered. He already has more patterned strips of fabric than you’d need to hogtie a herd of elephants, so no more ties. And gold cufflinks? He may be worth his weight in gold, but his sleeves aren’t designed to bare that kind of weight. Lastly, if you don’t like his smell after he finishes investing another bucket-worth of sweat equity into the house, don’t cover it up with more cologne when you can just feed the honey do list through the shredder, turn on the fan, blow a kazoo, and toss his worries to the wind like so much confetti!

Fuss Over Father’s Day No More

You know that emotionally stirring moment when dad presses his fingers to either side of his nose, and a single tear slips down his cheek, but then he pulls it together, but everybody is full-out bawling because if dad cries then it’s totally a big deal? You know what we’re talking about. Now, did it ever happen after you gave him a tie? Of course not.

So, because he deserves much better than a case of Dadja vu, consider these great gift ideas:

– Give dad a hand with needed repairs, hand them over to a handyman.

– Kick-boxing anyone? Kick his heart health into high gear with some personal training sessions.

– Take away that tension trapped in his back and shoulders with a professional massage.

– If he’s bending and lifting with difficulty, that makes cleaning a challenge. So, hire a maid to clean every nook and cranny of the castle.

– Does dad dress like a 1950’s panhandler with ill-fitting jackets and trousers? Bag him and his baggy suits and drag them to a tailor.

In fact, Seva Call has over 50 service categories, and he’d be happy to see just about anything get done with one exception: he’d probably hate dentists, so wait until after Father’s Day to book that cleaning.

 Seva Call Has You Covered

Other than that, you can spoil dad right out of his shell with unforgettable gifts and experiences just by going to www.talklocal.com and submitting a service request. Then, stand by to talk to a top-rated pro in seconds. You’ll make dad wish he could hang your present on the refrigerator, but he can’t… the magnetic force isn’t strong enough. He will be, however, happy that you were so thoughtful… for once.

Happy Father’s Day from the Seva Call Team.

Cheaper-Than-Dirt Decorating Ideas from Pinterest - Seva Call

Seva Man finally moved off of the Seva Call headquarters couch, which is awesome because the interns were slightly irritated at his habit of drying his socks in the microwave. Strangely though, for his housewarming registry, he listed nothing but double-ply toilet paper, packing crates, and used tires. Apparently, Seva Man is not just cheaper-than-dirt out of necessity, it’s actually on principle. He’s turning his treasured odds and ends into shabby-chic style that’s anything but trashy. And actually, it’s coming along quite nicely. If you’re Pinterested, here are just a few of his nifty home fashion fixin’s.

Used Tire Ottoman: Ottomans aren’t for the shallow and pedantic, so they’re priced around the high 2-low 3 digits to keep out the riff-raff. But, something that’s as terribly riff-raff as an ugly, used tire can be turned into a beautiful ottoman. Fill the center with a round slate of wood, add wheels and legs, and cover either with polyester, braided rope, or with fabric, and a round top cushion.

Crate Bookcase: Wooden fruit crates are available at craft stores and, with some paint, along with a few brackets or wall mounts, can be turned into a modern looking bookcase.  Pinterester Julia got her crates for $12.99 from Michael’s and, because she was furnishing a children’s room, she stacked and bolted the crates to the wall. A freestanding option is done using brackets here, and Apartment Therapy shows how creative you can get with this shelf, uniquely configured in chaotic design.

More Crate Possibilities: These crate-converted creations: coffee table, wall mount, and lamp are also all very striking. Based on their looks, they’re worth at least two to three times as much as the cost of the material.

Shipping Pallet Bed Frame: The pallet-wood from bulk packing can be turned into a low-down, crisp-looking bed frame with lots of minimalist cool. Plus, no boxspring needed — potentially saving you a couple hundred bucks. That’s also one less back-breaking payload you’d have to maneuver up the stairs.

Alternative Pallet Bed Option: To add a touch of the rustic without compromising comfort, opt for a pallet headboard instead. Painted black for a chic take or attention-grabbing at a huge scale, the design element is very flexible and can be adapted to match any style. Soften the look with decals or other embellishments.

Need Help Turning Shabby Into Chic?
A little creativity goes a long way. But, sometimes a lack of skill keeps people from realizing their home improvement hopes. If you need a painter, carpenter, handyman, or any professional in one of our over 50 service categories, visit www.talklocal.com to submit a service request to get connected to available help by phone, and in minutes.

Seva Call Founder Manpreet Singh Dorks Out As Featured Panelist At Toigo Conference - Seva Call

Image courtesy of the Robert Toigo Foundation.

It’s like he is a kid in Willy Wonka Land: that’s the way Seva Call founder Manpreet Singh’s face lights up when he talks about investment strategy, core verticals, incremental growth returns, and market disruptors. For a business nerd like him, being a featured panelist at Toigo’s 5th Annual Alumni Investment Conference was like biting into a peppermint patty and getting the mind-blowingly invigorating sensation that he’s submersed in an intellectual debate over the key drivers of above-IPO performance and rattling off statistical evidence of an epic shift in consumer behavior metrics.

Just take that thought and replace it with something normal people find extremely exciting, you get the idea.

At the conference, held yesterday in New York, Manpreet offered his thought leadership on “Navigating Through Disruptive Technologies.” He drew from his experience not only as the founder of a noted venture-funded company, but also as a 3-time start-up leader; the first such venture was in high school. Throughout the the event, Manpreet advocated for further innovation to stay ahead of the ever-evolving market and focus on solving real problems.

Key Points:

He warned of investing in nonessential technology, saying  that any software which users tend to think of as an unhealthy addiction, but is not as addictive as it is unhealthy, may not be the best long-term investment, as it’s just a habit bound to be broken eventually.

He also emphasized the need for more mobile compatibility in online websites. He noted that  only 6.7% of business websites are mobile compatible, but the 25% of users who search on their smartphones and tablets are more decisive consumers: becoming customers 70% of the time and often with the hour. For Seva Call’s part, the upcoming Seva Call iPhone and Android app launch will make searching local businesses online intuitive, even if business owners don’t adapt as quickly to the mobile web-search trend.

“My company’s top priority is perfecting our mobile app and getting it on the market as quickly as possible…. It’s a move that makes perfect sense for our business, so I couldn’t be more excited,” Manpreet Singh added.

A Devoted Small Business Advocate:

As a small business owner and advocate whose innovative service enhances consumer experience while driving much-needed revenue to local businesses, Manpreet is honored to have had the opportunity to meet and speak to his industry peers, and will continue to work for the shared betterment of the business community wherever he can, whether through his work, his words, or on the web. Because he kinda lives for this stuff.
